The viewer’s participation, and their involvement in the very substance of the work, interest Dyson more and more in the construction of his staging. As in I See You…, 2010, the sculpture of this head with bulging eyes can give free rein to our fears and fantasies. This man’s head, half hidden behind a ledge, rests its hands upon it. The whole is hung by chains from a metal support. The man would be a kind of voyeur, a pervert scrutinising prey over a low wall. The prey is not identified, but the installation shows that this deviant is chained to his urges — urges that make of his condition a hanged man. The point of the suspension is therefore not merely aesthetic, although it works well with the sculpture’s initial form: it truly helps to feed the substance of the work.
